LinkedIn Profile Tips
As you navigate through the tremendous world of opportunities for your future, it is important to seek out opportunities that help you grow professionally, personally and that assist you in growing your network of trusted professionals.
Here are some ways to help you get started:
Volunteer
Volunteering is a great way to support your community, causes you believe in and to meet people that could help you get your foot in the door with companies that you’re interested. Think about the companies you’d love to work with – do they have a philanthropic arm or support a particular cause? If so, volunteer for them! They’re always hosting fundraisers and as a volunteer, you may be invited to help out at gala events, golf outings and other gatherings that put you in the same circles that key people from your dream company will be attending. Get ready and go!
Build Your Networks
Enjoy spending time on social media? It’s not just for posting selfies, what you’re eating or where you’re hanging out. Using social media the is a great way to get in front of decision makers and show them why they should want to play a part in your Success! LinkedIn is one of the best ways to show who you are outside of the confines of a resume. So get working on that LinkedIn profile!
Find Internship Opportunities
Internships are a great way to gain real life, hands-on experience in fields you’re interested in pursuing. Make sure you seek out opportunities that go hand in hand with the career path you’re working towards and jump in! There is no better way to see what ‘a day in the life’ would be like that working in it! Ask your educators, guidance counselors, attend internship fairs, and even network your way in by reaching out to companies through their employees on LinkedIn. Don’t be afraid to ask questions – what’s the worse that can happen? Absolutely nothing!
Create Opportunities For Yourself
Outside of seeking traditional opportunities, how about creating your own? For example, are you creative? Are you great at photography or art? Consider taking an online class and then finding local events or Not For Profit organizations where you can use your skill and start gaining experience. You may even find a nice part time job! The skills you will hone are priceless and so are the soft skills like communication, teamwork and leadership skills
