Interviewing: Be Prepared

Interviewing

  • Once you have landed the opportunity to meet with a potential employer or even the person who may hire you for an internship or volunteer position, it’s important to get prepared. These things can help you:
  • Learn and research the company and even the person you will be talking about if you can find out about them. This will help you to understand the company better and help you answer questions you could be asked. You’ll look smart and make a great impression! LinkedIn is a great place to find this information.
  • Make sure you know everything that is on your resume and can speak to each point if asked.
  • Practice common interview questions like: Tell me about yourself, why do you want to work here? What are your strengths or weaknesses?
And, you should also think about these things:
  • Dress the part
  • Be at least 10 minutes early (maybe do a dry run, if it’s an area you’re not familiar with)
  • Turn your phone off or to silent and put it away
  • No chewing gum/candy
  • Have at least 2 extra copies of your resume with you
  • Be polite to everyone – the receptionist could be the Interviewer’s niece…
  • A smile, handshake and eye contact can make a BIG impression
  • Believe in yourself – YOU’VE GOT THIS!
